What is PhotoRejuvenation?
[top]
PhotoRejuvenation (also known as Photo-Facial and Foto-Facial), is a non-invasive treatment that erases sun damage, freckling, broken capillaries and redness. It can be used to create an even, radiant complexion. The face, neck and décolletage are the most commonly treated areas. Treatments result in consistent, visible improvement of the skin with no downtime, little discomfort, and minimal risk.
How does PhotoRejuvenation work?
[top]
Dermavogue's Laser Skin Rejuvenation uses an Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photorejuvenation with Sciton BBL (Broadband Light) to target uneven pigmentation and redness. The light energy is selectively absorbed by melanin and hemoglobin in the epidermis. This rapidly heats pigmented spots and broken capillaries whilst keeping the surrounding skin cool. The skin blemishes are selectively destroyed whilst the healthy skin is left safe and intact. The treated blemishes either get reabsorbed by the body or migrate to the skin surface and flake off. The result is a radiant, glowing complexion with a vastly more even complexion.
What can be treated with PhotoRejuvenation treatments?
[top]
Any area of your body can be treated. The most common areas are those most exposed to the damaging effects of sun light. The most common treatments are for the face, neck, back of the hands, chest and shoulders.
IPL/BBL PhotoRejuvenation treatments are beneficial for:
- Rosacea:/b> PhotoRejuvenation reduces the overall redness, flushing and tiny blood vessels associated with the condition and often improves the acne breakouts which are common.
- Sun damage to the face (photo-aging): PhotoRejuvenation reduces freckling and irregular pigmentation and creates a more smooth appearance to the skin and even some reduction in pore appearance.
- Sun damage to the chest and back (photo-aging): PhotoRejuvenation reduces the freckling and irregular pigmentation to the chest and/or back and improves the overall appearance of the skin. Also reduces the redness on the chest associated with excessive sun exposure.
- Sun damage to the hands and arms (photo-aging, also called "liver spots"): PhotoRejuvenation reduces the freckling and irregular pigmentation to the hands and even the arms with improvement in the thin-skin appearance of sun damaged hands.
Who should NOT use PhotoRejuvenation treatments?
[top]
PhotoRejuvenation treatments should not be used on persons with connective tissue disease, autoimmune disorders, pregnancy, cysts, herpetic lesions, bacterial lesions, epileptics, or those who have recently had cortisone or steroid injections. See: Are PhotoRejuvenation treatments safe?
What results should I expect from PhotoRejuvenation treatments?
[top]
Even after your first treatment, your skin can feel smoother and will have more even tone. Improvement is gradual and will continue to be more visible after each treatment. Many individuals experience dramatic results only after 1-2 treatments; however, four to five treatments are performed for optimal results. Some patients will benefit from additional maintenance treatments.
Recovery with the IPL PhotoRejuvenation is minimal. Your face may be mildly red for several hours after the procedure but this will subside. Pigmented areas on your skin will become darker initially, and then flake off over the following week.
How long does a PhotoRejuvenation treatment take?
[top]
Each treatment takes approximately 15-30 minutes.
Are PhotoRejuvenation treatments safe?
[top]
Yes. The procedure is gentle, non-invasive, and safe. Your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses.
Are PhotoRejuvenation treatments painful?
[top]
You will experience a slight sensation as the pulses of therapeutic light are passed over your skin. The sensation is very mild and easily tolerated, with most people describing the sensation of IPL therapy as feeling like a "flick of a rubber band". Topical anaesthic creams are not required but are available for individuals who wish to numb the skin.
How soon are the results of PhotoRejuvenation treatments noticeable?
[top]
After your first treatment, your skin will feel smoother and will have a more even tone. Best results are achieved after 4 or 5 treatments, depending on the condition of your skin.
How long does the effect of a PhotoRejuvenation treatment last?
[top]
The results achieved from your IPL PhotoRejuvenation treatments can be expected to last for several years. However, with the passage of time and with environmental exposure, skin ages as we do. IPL PhotoRejuvenation will provide benefits and significantly reverse many of the visible signs of sun-damaged skin. Improvement achieved following a first series of treatments can be maintained by occasional single maintenance treatments.
How often can I get PhotoRejuvenation treatments?
[top]
Depending on the severity of the condition being treated, a series of 4 to 6 treatments, at a 2-4 weeks interval, may be recommended. By dividing the program into several treatments, the process provides progressive improvement with minimal risk and no downtime. This makes IPL therapy ideal for today's busy lifestyle - dramatic improvements can be achieved without lengthy recovery time hidden away from the world. You may benefit from additional treatments depending on the severity of your condition.
Are there side effects from PhotoRejuvenation?
[top]
You should be able to resume all of your regular activities immediately. By dividing the full program into several treatments, the procedure provides progressive improvement with very low risk.
Can PhotoRejuvenation be used be used with other treatments?
[top]
Microdermabrasion is often performed in conjunction with other skin renewal procedures, such as PhotoRejuvenation and chemical peels.
PhotoRejuvenation Versus Chemical Peel.. Which is right for me?
[top]
Chemical peels will not reduce redness and flushing or dilated capillaries. Before the IPL technology came along, there was no effective treatment for flushing or facial or neck redness.
